How Pura Letra works
The basics
Paste any article URL on the home page and hit Read. Pura Letra pulls out the article text and shows it to you without the ads, sidebars, and cookie banners you'd normally have to wade through.
That's it. You don't need an account to read articles.
What you can do with an account
- Save articles — Keep articles in your library so you can come back to them later, on any device.
- Highlight text — Select any passage while reading to highlight it. Add a note if you want to remember why it stood out.
- Listen to articles — Press the Listen button and the article reads itself to you. Handy for long reads or when your eyes need a break.
- Share with anyone — Generate a link that lets others read the article on Pura Letra, even without an account.
- Collections — Group articles into collections and share a whole reading list with a public link.
- Light and dark mode — Switch themes with the toggle in the header. Your preference sticks between sessions.
- Available in English and Spanish — Pura Letra detects your browser language automatically. You can also switch manually with the language toggle in the header.
- Reading Digest — Get a weekly email summary of your library — unread articles, highlights, and reading streak.
Install it on your phone or computer
Pura Letra is a web app you can add to your home screen like a native app. No app store involved.
- iPhone / iPad — In Safari, tap the share button, then "Add to Home Screen."
- Android — In Chrome, tap the menu (three dots), then "Install app."
- Desktop — In Chrome or Edge, look for the install icon in the address bar.
Save articles with the browser extension
Instead of copying and pasting URLs, you can save articles to your library in one click while you browse. Extensions are available for Chrome and Safari.
- Go to Settings and generate an API key.
- Install the extension for your browser:
- Chrome extension (also works in Edge, Brave, and other Chromium browsers)
- Safari extension (Mac, iPhone, and iPad)
- Open the extension and paste your API key.
- From now on, just click the extension icon on any article to save it.
Send articles from Firefox or any other browser
If your browser doesn't have an extension yet, you can still send articles to Pura Letra.
Share sheet (mobile & Mac)
If you install Pura Letra to your home screen or dock, it shows up in your device's share menu. Just tap the share button in your browser, pick Pura Letra, and the article opens immediately.
- iPhone / iPad — You can also use the Safari extension for a faster one-tap save. Or add to Home Screen first (see above), then use the share button on any page.
- Mac (Safari) — Add to Dock first, then use File → Share or the share button.
- Android — Install the app first (see above), then use the share button on any page.
Bookmarklet (any browser)
Drag this button to your bookmarks bar. Click it on any article to open it in Pura Letra:
If you can't drag it, right-click the button, copy the link, and add a new bookmark manually with the copied link as the URL.
Free vs. Pro
You can use Pura Letra for free with generous limits. Pro unlocks the full experience:
- Unlimited saves — Free accounts can save up to 100 articles. Pro removes that limit.
- Unlimited highlights and notes — Free accounts get 3 highlights per article. Pro lets you highlight as much as you want.
- Full-text search — Search the entire text of every saved article, not just titles.
- Tags — Organize your library with custom tags.
- Unlimited collections — Free accounts get 3 collections with 5 articles each. Pro removes both limits.
- Newsletter Ingestion — Forward newsletters to your personal Pura Letra email and article links are saved automatically.
- Highlights Export — Download highlights as JSON, CSV, or Markdown. Sync to Readwise.
- Data export — Download all your data as JSON.
Pro is $5/month or $50/year (2 months free). Cancel anytime from Settings.
Good to know
- Most news sites, blogs, and longform articles work well. Heavily interactive pages (like web apps or dashboards) won't.
- If an article is behind a paywall, Pura Letra will tell you. It can only extract what's publicly visible.
- Everything you save, highlight, and note is private. Nobody else can see your library.
